the 2006 session, a bill we worked to defeat. Again, the citizen
initiative process is under fire. The League of Women Voters of Florida
supports the citizens' initiative process and is opposed to this bill and any
others that would make it more difficult for citizens to be involved in their
government (See Study & Action, pp. 8-9).</FONT></DIV>

<DIV class=RTE align=left>There are stringent requirements for paid petition
gatherers.</DIV>

<DIV class=RTE align=left>A revocation process is created in the bill.
Instead of creating a process where a petition signer would contact the
elections supervisor in order to remove his/her signature from a petition,
people involved in a "counter-campaign" could distribute forms for citizens to
revoke their signatures. It would be difficult to know how many signatures
an organization really has collected; it would also create a cottage industry in
the petition revocation process.</DIV>

<DIV class=RTE align=left>All signatures collected would have to be turned into
the supervisor of elections within a thirty day period in order to be
valid.</DIV>

and ask them to vote "NO" on this bill.</DIV>
